V. RESEARCH
Dr. Norman Mohl, Dr. Davis Garlapo
School of Dental Medicine
State University of New York
Buffalo, New York
Conducted research with a
postgraduate student for his masters thesis in oral biology
comparing a non-clicking control
group to a clicking group, utilizing computerized
jaw tracking, for the purpose of
assessing and comparing the effects of condylar
guidance on these groups
Conducted research with a
postgraduate student for his masters thesis in oral biology by
evaluating
the effect of incisal guidance on
condylar hinge axis positions using computerized hinge axis tracking
Dr. Robert McKinstry
Maxillofacial Prosthetic Rehabilitation
Eye and Ear Hospital
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Conducted research with postgraduate
student for his masters thesis utilizing computerized jaw tracking to
determine the optimum medical
surgical approach when resecting the temporomandibular joint for
passage to low based cranial tumors medial
to the temporal bone Journal of Prosthetics Dentistry Feb.
Vienna Research Group: Conducted research and participated on the
research committee with multi-disciplined dentists from four
continents to set forth the criteria establishing a "super
normal" dental population using manual and computerized
instrumentation for the purpose of establishing a reproducible
research base line to which other research can be compared both
quantitatively and qualitatively
Dr. Ross Talents, Dr. Per Lenart
Wessesson
Eastman Dental Center
Rochester, New York
Participated in a double blind study
comparing the specificity and efficacy of computerized jaw tracking
to MRI, Cat Scans, and double
contrast arthography examinations of mandibular articular disc
positions
INDIVIDUAL RESEARCH PROJECTS:
Established the protocol for and
made the composite overlay devices to reposition the mandible in a
group of myofacial pain dysfunction
patients which were evaluated over a four year period
Dissecting,
weighting individual muscle masses, doing cephalometric analyses on
herbivores, carnivores and human cadaver material for the purpose of
evaluating the presence of biological masticatory compensatory
mechanisms in species from homogeneous gene pools verses humans.
RESEARCH PROJECTS at Boston University SDM:
Dr. Gianelly, Dr. Gildea, Dr. Retrouvey
Department of Orthodontics
Goldman School of Dental Medicine
Boston University
Submitting three research protocols
to Boston University, School of Dentistry, Department of
Orthodontics designed to:
- Research the effects of placing
the tongue to the posterior aspect of the palate to
determine if
this technique is suitable for a quick, easy position for posturing
the mandible
during orthodontic treatment.
- Research the validity of using
leaf gauges to determine if this methodology is appropriate in
assessing hinge axis condylar positions during orthodontic
treatment;
- Research the effects of using
Lucia jigs on hinge axis condylar positions "in situ", and
to assess if the desired
result of seating the condyles cranially is obtained or, if the
opposite phenomena is observed from
distalizing the mandible utilizing this technique.
Obtain computerized hinge axis
records on all willing classmates, and other students, to establish
an orthopedic analysis of condylar
hinge movements; to be submitted to the orthopedic profession and
incorporated into their "neutral
zero method" of assessing the range of motion (ROM) of joints.
This study will parallel a similar
study being conducted at the University of Vienna, Austria.
Presently, their does not an exist a true
orthopedic approach to the temporomandibular joint plus, the method
of using a ruler to measure mandibular
movements at the incisal edges incorporates to many errors for proper
assessment of ROM.
RESEARCH at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine
Masters of Science in Dental Sciences thesis on the accuracy of the
CadiaxCompact jaw-tracking unit. Thesis published July 19th
2002.
RESEARCH at Donau University, Krems, Austria
Masters of Science Degree,
thesis on the non-existence of an immediate mandibular side-shift.

during oral surgery, perform root planning, do prophylaxis, carve
amalgams, and insert and adjust
prosthetic devices for three years when time permitted due to
interest in Dentistry

Laboratory in the cellar of my house with two employees and grew it
into an eighty four six employee
business. All employees were trained by me to become dental
technicians as none were hired with previous
experience. The laboratory could construct any prosthetic device.
